Chapter 4

GAGE

I start to go after Chloe.

I won’t touch her.

I won’t lay a finger on her, but I need to talk to her, need to make sure she’s okay after she safe worded like that. What the fuck was I thinking?

I exit the library and start down the hallway. Chloe is nowhere in sight. Shit. She must be moving at lightning speed.

As I hurry down the corridor, I see motion at the other end of the hall – but it’s only Willow.

“Gage.”

“I can’t talk right now.” I go to push past her, but she steps in front of me, blocking my path. She holds out a cell phone, the one only my family can reach her on. “It’s your mother.”

I take the phone. There’s only one reason my mother would be calling me on Willow’s private line. My mother avoids Willow like the plague. It’s one thing my mother does that makes sense, after what happened.

“Mother,” I growl.

She sighs, like I’m the one calling her with some kind of inconvenience. “It’s your sister.”

“What about her?” I know, of course. I just want to hear her say it.

“It’s happening again. You better get over here.”
